in the muslim religion the man lords over his wife and does not cherish her or love her or care for her when she is sick. submitting to your husband is allowing him to make decisions in the marriage. you love him the way the church loves christ. this doesnt mean he bosses you around. it means he gets the final say. however, the final say should be biblically sound and righteous in any decision. the mans role is to lead his wife in following the Lord and living for him and to love his wife the way Christ loves the church...Christ loves the church enough to die for the ones who believe in him so that they would have eternal life in heaven with no sickness or sadness. a husband should love his wife enough to make decisions that are best for her and their family. not in a selfish authoritative way and he should love her enough to be willing to die for her and put her above his own needs. it balances out as long as the two both live for Christ. these are the views of a christian marriage..completely different from a muslim marriage

Do yourselves a favor and use secular vows. In all these the groom pledges love, leadership, and faithfulness, and the bride obedience, submission, and faithfulness.

Drop all the religious pretenses and have a Dominant/submissive ceremony instead. Else once he discovers religion is man-made he will not be faithful, and she even before that time will not be obedient and submissive.

Don't say the words unless you mean them, and for your marriage's sake don't tie the words to figments of mens' imaginations.

I'm never going to say any of these Bride's vows, I much prefer the Groom's vows. If I said the Groom's vows: I get to lead, my wife gets to be my 'crown', she must be submissively obedient to me, my people will be her people (not vice versa), she will serve me and she will be my 'helper' (not co-partner/equal etc). I can't imagine any man saying any of the 'Bride' vows above to his fiance! It's sickening how the bible has been used out of context in many of the above vows to justify the promises. Above the Groom is frequently likened to Christ, and the Bride is frequently likened to the Church. Why does the Groom get to be closer to Christ? Why does she have to obey her husband?

The vows refer to the groom as Christ and the bride as the church to help christians understand the call of marriage. And yes, these vows seem extremley sexist, but if you were to read the passage in the bible where it calls for a wife to submit to her husband read the verses before that and you will find that God calls also the husband to submit to his wife, to love her as he loves himself. It's such a misunderstood concept. The whole submitting idea. Seriously if you don't understand it ask a pastor to explain it to you. That's what I had to do. I was really offended at first, but when my pastor read to me the previous and following verses on submission and marriage it wasn't offensive anymore.

No bride should 'obey' her husband. Conflicts should be worked through together. Women aren't children - they are adults, and every bit as valuable as men.

the man being the leader of the house is NOT a bad thing. it is how God intended it to be.. he made man and woman for DIFFERENT reasons, to do different things... just because the man is the "head" does not mean he is a slave owner of the woman.. it says in the Bible to love and cherish the woman, and the woman has just an important part of being the manager of the household and encourager of the family.

It is the FALL OF SOCIETY that makes the women have to step up and take charge. women being leaders ISN'T bad.. but we shouldn't HAVE to if the men had the courage to do it themselves.

I'm confused...a lot of people are throwing little baby tantrums and hissy fits about "domination" and how stupid these vows are...did you miss the "christian" and "religious" part? If you don't like them, you don't have to use them...don't act like a baby and act out on here just because you don't agree. No one is making you use any of these.

As for my fiance and I, we will be using number 8 and crafting the brides response. For those of you who think it's domineering, read the entire chapter in Ephesians...husbands are supposed to love their wives as Christ love the church...laying down his life for her.
