Why Marriage?

Because to the depths of me, I long to love one person,
With all my heart, my soul, my mind, my body...

Because I need a forever friend to trust with the intimacies of me,
Who won't hold them against me,
Who loves me when I'm unlikable,
Who sees the small child in me, and
Who looks for the divine potential of me...

Because I need to cuddle in the warmth of the night
With someone who thanks God for me,
With someone I feel blessed to hold...

Because marriage means opportunity
To grow in love in friendship...

Because marriage is a discipline
To be added to a list of achievements...

Because marriages do not fail, people fail
When they enter into marriage
Expecting another to make them whole...

Because, knowing this,
I promise myself to take full responsibility
For my spiritual, mental and physical wholeness
I create me, I take half of the responsibility for my marriage
Together we create our marriage...

Because of this understanding
The possibilities are limitless.

a slightly more tactful version of this would be perfect. could be seen as defensive or untactful, i would tone it down a bit but still love the overall vibe. I like the last part about responsibility for your spirituality and that, insightful.

  • My poem

To you,my dear lover,my friend my everything in this life

To you ,to us, forever my wife.

Youve brought me something no one else could have given.

You brought me hope, because before my life was wrongly driven.

You were there when i had nobody else to turn to,

your were there when i was at my darkest blue.

You were the one that brought me this gift,

you were the one that made my spirit lift.

For that I thank you,and vow to you,to us,

through the happy times, the hard and all the fuss.

I love you, so much, forever and always,

    till the end of days.

Ill be there for you,as you will for me,

our love ,is for everyone to see.

i think the part about failing marriages is a wake up call. its the truth and i like it. The rest of the poem is beatiful.
