  • Mr

I promised to forsake all others and to protect my wife with every all my heart and soul and to keep God first in all that I do from the good to the bad my mother dad kids ect all take a back seat to my wife. But for her, its her kids their boyfriends not husbands grandkids, sister whom ever else comes before me to her I mean if her or her kids fall short from paying a bill then my wife will ask me to leave the home supposidly her and I share this isnt the first time shes said this but its definately the last time because i no longer want to be apart of a union that no unity between her and i exist and since her family comes before me she wouldnt miss someone who meant nothing to her from the beginning sorry i poured my heart to whom ever happens to see and read this but I feel 200% better thanks for listening

What happned to the word Obey in the traditional wedding vow this may be the reason so many marriages fail as we continue to be disobedient to God. if he felt the need to include the word obey, who are we to change what is truly a very important command from him. but leave it to man to confuse this word as with so many others a form dominance over a spouse as would be the case concerning an animal this not what he meant I'm sure, to obey your spouse would be to listen if asked to do something like when speaking he ask you to hold your tongue as you may inadvertantly misspeak on a situation that may cause a problem you dont see which would a good time for you to obey such a request now if your ask to roll over or beg then i would see a problem with you adhering to that order

  • I still stand to the words.

I remember 16 years ago, these words i said to my wife.

for these 16 years i have tryed to live by them to my fullest. I gave everything that day i said I DO, and spoke`s these words. That day on Decemember 3rd. 1997 I gave my life fully to my wife. and i felt something inside, as i said them standing a church, that i never said i would be in one again. that day, it felt Right in my life, to be there in front of the fireplace, standing across from my wife and in front of the Pastor with the room dimly lite, speaking those words.

And looking into her eyes as i spoke them from my HEART. After 16 years and troubles, I still stand by those words. and i still stand behind them with all my heart and breath.

but i feel that something is wrong now. i feel that those words have gone south, not with my self, those will always stand true. but with my wife. im not sure if those words still stand true to her. Belive me i want to ask, but i think i will let these words be a paper, so that i can see if these still feeel the same way for her as they do for me ..
Have to wait to see what year 17 brings. i hope they bring peace and happiness for us both..

  • the words are beautiful its the groom that let them down

we had been together since we were 14 he was my life and at that age i was his. We got engaged at 17 and married at 19 a year later we had a son a year after that a daughter.Iwent to work 2wks aft my daughter was born we needed money. Dont get me wrong my husband gave me just enough love to keep me going but lipstick on shirt late coming in to cut a long story short i distrusted him.Its 33years later three kids 32 31 23 three grand children 9 6 2 two afairs that i no off aft they had finished by 3 years .In 2008 he bought me a new start ring im no push over when i heard of the last afair i left him i met someone and in the end my husband begged me to come home and has told me every day since then he loves me.18 months ago he was diagnosed with cancer with a transplant he will be cured. So why am i raking up the past at a time like this all this pain has come back to haunt me .His drunken friend said years ago o yes ---- likes the ladies and it has always stuck in my head.If anyone wants give me advise id be grateful.

  • Looking To See What Im in For

My boyfriend and I are thinking about getting engaged. I'm researching wedding vows to make sure that I fully understand what I am going to be promising on my wedding day. It looks like a tough promise but with God's help I know it is one that I can keep.

    May 2011-08-09

  • buyer beware

I'm still amazed at how easily these vows are exchanged without fully comprehending the covenant that each person is entering. Not meaning to rain on anyone's day, but...some people don't uphold their end. My husband didn't remain "faithful forsaking all others" and truth be told I didn't cherish him. It's been 7 months since I found out about his infidelity and about a year since the actual event took place. We are trying to save our marriage but I feel like I'm living through the "worse" part and the light at the end of the tunnel is bleak. If there was anything I would have differently it would have been counseling as soon as any resentments started.

  • Lovely Words Often Taken Too Lightly

When my wonderful husband and I spoke these.. what seemed then like simple words almost four years ago, I did not realize the great commitment that was involved. Sadly this was his 3rd marriage and he failed to grasp the concept as well. We have had more than our fair share of rocky times, didn't get to share the birth of our first son together and spent over nine months apart. We have fully paid attorneys for our divorce and been forced to start all over from the beginning. The issue has not been lack of love, but a lack of understanding, patience, and compromise. Valuable lessons have been learned. In the end two stubborn people can stay together if they open their eyes to the bigger picture, "In life it's not the ones you can live with, but the ones you can't stand to live without." My advice for a strong lasting healthy marriage is to always put your loved one first, fulfill their needs and wants, and always value the thing that's so easily taken for granted: just being together. Not everyday has to be an adventure or kodak moment, sometimes what seems the most boring at the time turns out to be what is remembered in the end. Not everyone is blessed with finding their soulmate. For my Husband I am truely thankful every day...

  • wedding vows

These wedding vows don't mean anything to people now days. As soon as they are tire of you they tell you they are not in love with you any longer and wwant out. I been married for 17 years and after she use me to get on her feet she tells that she not in love with me. Woman get away with this now because they have the goverment back them.I have two children and she didn't even think about how this would afect them.

I am only 19 years old and i am going to be pledging my life to a man that I love. He is my high school sweetheart and to be honest with everyone I am as scared as can be. My vows are going to be based off the 6th version on here due to the fact that I am not of a religion and neither is he. Please if anyone has any info or advise to lend to me I will gladly take it!

  • Happiness for both families

In stating that I will forsake all others, does this mean to go away from or give up , leave, abandon the life before before your wedding? I'm confused, someone please help me understand this part of the vows.

  • My Vows

My wife passed away 60 years ago today and I am currently 81. My vow is mention above, "I,Charlie Upton, take you, Rosemary Vernern, to be my wife, according to God’s holy decree, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do we part: and to that I pledge you my faithfulness." One other vow I made to her when she was in hospital is that I will never remarry or have a day without visiting her final resting place as long as I lived, and I have proudly held up to that. For 60 years, I haven't missed a day at the cemetery with her, maybe "Til death do us part" may even be overcome.

    Charlie 2008-04-14

  • True Love Will Last Forever...

    i love em.

  • I promised

My husband and I have been married for 27 years. I showed him these vows. What he did not do, was take better or worse, richer for poorer, and in sickness and in health. We actually renewed our vows 7 years ago, on our 20th anniversary. Now that I am sick, and unable to work, he is pulling away from me. What should I do? I really thought he would be sick and infirm first, not me. I truly believed that even if he were disfigured in an accident or dirt poor, I would, and will stand by him and support him, not make him feel like a complete stranger. BE AWARE when you take these vows, not every one is equipped to handle not just one, but all the vows.

  • Marriage

im only 15, but i already know the love of my life! someday i hope to marry her, and say those vows...i love her soooo much, words really can't describe how i feel about her.

    Nick 2007-10-06

  • How true are these words

I got married to these words.... In my eyes you know the meaning of forever love. I am 37 I have been married for 10 1/2 years I have been with my husband for 16 years the love just grows stronger. The trust grows with us. We are about to make the biggest decision of our lives, if we did not trust each other there would be no decision to make. We would not be where we are now.... You have to believe in the person you cherish and love, when that person is felt to be loved they can then love there destiny and be happy. What else do we want?????

  • Thanks

I'm getting married in September and I'm going to use the traditional Vows. This has helped me to determine how I wanted to have my ceremony. And by this website now I'm a little stress free. Thanks again!

  • Priorty

I have been married for 36 years and we did the
traditional vows the only thing is we took them
very serious and we lived by them always. This the
recipe for a successful marriage. Believe in the words you are saying when you repeat the vows to each other
and know you mean them and will live by them for the rest of your lives. If more people did this we would have alot less divorces leaving single parent to raise
    children alone.

    Shelia 2007-05-31
