Just an FYI, the author of this piece, Wilfred Peterson, named it The Art of Marriage, not The Art of a Good Marriage.
And as Mark commented above, the 5th to last line is not supposed to contain the word "old".
Art of a Marriage
I am a minister in Las Vegas ,I use this poem all
Thank you for this inspiration, I will look for this in my partner and marriage...
I read this at every wedding
Really, no one is that traditionalist anymore
just used this poem at my wedding this last weekend...also used the last line on my invitations...it so true...if we followed this advise - divorce rates would plummet!
Do you know anything about Copy Right on this?
Really like this as not too soppy but straight to the point and the heart.
I attended a wedding this weekend and this poem was read....it made me realize what I haven't wanted to accept....my marriage is over.
It is very good but
I hate to get picky, because it is very good. However, the original omits the word "old" in the fifth to last line. Take that word out and the meaning changes subtly.
Then the next line in the original is "It is finding room for things of the spirit".
This is another good goal for a marriage.
Getting married in our 60's now still holds true with what I read. Beautiful, beautiful!
the perfect one
i feel its the best. it expresses everything. i will have it read at my wedding soon.
THAT IS SO TRUE
IT IS SO WONDERFUL TO KNOW THAT THEIR ARE WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOU FEELINGS, TO SOME ONE, I WILL DEFNITLY CONSIDER TOE REED THIS VOW AT MY WEDDING!!!!!
very nice site .....when ever i get married i like to tell you people about my happy happy life
Hope see goes with it, it all you need for a good life together...
One word.. Great! Two words.. Very awesome!
We are re-newing our vows on our 25th wedding aniversary and this poem will be read, it is so true and I think the words are beautiful.
10 years later
This poem was read at our wedding 10 years ago. 10 years later, while each line is very true, I think the last two are the most significant in sustaining a healthy marriage: "It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, the dependence is mutual, and the obligation is reciprocal. It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner."
I think before the marriage there must be something but that love should be grown up otherwise there is nothing to lose.
its very touching and true
I will be having it read at my wedding in September
This will b getng read at my weding. It reminds me of my grandparents mariage
very good site
this poem is so true its to bad more people didn't believe it maybe we wouldn't have such a high divorce rate if they did.
