Love is a friendship that has caught fire

Love is a friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad.

It settles for less than perfection, and makes allowances for human weakness.

Love is content with the present. It hopes for the future and it doesn't brood over the past. It's the day-in and day-out chronicle of irritations, problems, compromises, small disappointments, big victories, and working toward common goals.

If you have love in your life, it can make up for a great many things you lack. If you don't have it, no matter what else there is, it is not enough, so search for it, ask God for it, and share it!

    to the first comment,
how can you say with the teaching of god, there will be no hate?
when gay people, or lesbians are excluded from the church? is that not hate and selfishness? is that not going to cause more hate?
what about Muslims? are you friends with them? or atheists?
where there is religion, there will be hate.

  • Great Essay

There is no God. At least, not in the traditional Judeo - Christian or Muslim concept. It's a myth and perpetual lie forced upon you as an impressionable, defenseless child. We must rely on ourselves and hope that we one day learn to understand and harness the powers of the universe to preserve our species and live together in a viable, cooperative and decent society.

I first read this essay in the Ann Landers column nearly 30 years ago. I still love it and live by it.
